Session Details and Information About Your Experience

As an experienced Cleveland Photographer...
I can tell you that the MOST popular times to have senior pictures taken are in August and September as a rising senior.
June, July, and October are also very popular months for senior portraits in the local Cleveland and surrounding areas. However, I create senior sessions in all four seasons, too. I start to book senior sessions the first week of May to the first weekend in November. I take the month of December and January off for family and getting galleries ready while also preparing for the remainder of the year.
Make sure to book your senior session well in advance if you'd like a specific time of year. Many of my seniors book their sessions 3-5 months to a year in advance. If you'd like an August date, you should book by May at the very latest. Hoping for a September date? You should try to book by early May. If you'd like a date in June or July, you can probably get away with waiting until May or June to book. Hoping for a beautiful fall-in-Ohio October session? My advice is to book your session by July! This time of the year fills up fast.
STEP 1: BOOK YOUR SESSION
The first step is to book your session. To book your senior portraits with me, click here Commitment & Payment, choose your package and an available date. Pay your deposit, sign the contract, and you are officially booked! Your final balance is due the date of your session. If you intend to book a sunset session in late July, August, or September, make sure to book at least 3-6 months in advance! These months book up extremely early and quickly.
STEP 2: PLANNING
We will chat by phone, text or email about outfit ideas, my hair and makeup artist recommendations for you, and location ideas that are tailored to your personality and ideas!
STEP 3: YOUR SESSION
Today's the big day! We will in most cases we will meet at your selected time. I usually only shoot in early morning (8-12) and then again just before "golden hour" (about 2 hours before sunset) and shoot for 1-2 hours depending on the package you selected. We'll be doing lots of laughing, hair twirling, slow walking, looking off camera, and giving the camera gorgeous soft smiles - don't worry, I will guide you through ALL the posing!
STEP 4: THE GALLERY
After your session, I go through all of your images and select the best 100 or so photos to present to you in an online gallery. From there, you may choose your favorite photos (depending on the package you chose) and I will carefully edit and lightly digitally retouch your favorites with all the latest high-end software in my signature light and natural style. You can choose additional images to be edited for an added fee. Your edited images will be uploaded to a private online gallery where you can easily download your high-resolution digital photographs to post, print, and order products such as canvases, photo books, and beautiful wooden keepsake boxes!BOOK N

Styling Tips & Planning
Always choose clothing that is true to your style and makes you feel confident.
Plan Outfits in their Entirety. This means every look should be styled head to toe including the proper shoes, undergarments, and jewelry/props. That way you are not missing anything on the day of the shoot.
Pick Outfits from Clothing You Know and Love. Senior pictures should be a true representation of your personality. There is no need to buy a whole new wardrobe.
Play with Layers. A denim jacket, blazer, or open button down shirt can help pull a look together. A well-fitting outer layer will enhance your body’s silhouette and photograph nicely.
Pick Simple Necklines. Simple neck lies elongate the neck drawing attention to the face that is very flattering in photos.
Plan Ahead with Hair. Everybody’s hair is different, but most haircuts look their best o to 2 weeks after the initial cut. Guys should shave the day of the shoot, but be careful with nicks.
Take Care of your Hands. A natural manicure, with clear or no polish, will help keep your hands looking presentable. Hands show up in a lot of poses, especially headshots and when working with props.
Be Mindful of Your Shoes. Shoes, like hands, can show up in some of your favorite poses. Make sure to not only have the appropriate footwear per outfit, but also that shoes are clean and presentable.
Play with Solid Colors. Natural, solid colors like blue, greens, grays, and whites will photograph best and work well with most backgrounds. Solid colors work great especially for close-ups. The focus will be on you rather than your outfit.
Go for Classic Jewelry and Accessories. A simple necklace and earrings, or your everyday watch should be all the jewelry you need. Avoid wearing anything too attention grabbing. Again, the photograph should accentuate your face, eyes, and personality. No need to draw unwarranted attention towards accessories, especially because they can easily date the photograph.
Apply Makeup Normally. You want your portraits to highlight your natural beauty. Avoid the temptation of going too glam and not looking like yourself. A little extra blush or eyeshadow can help from appearing washed out, but don’t stray too far from your normal routine.
Bring Translucent Powder or Oil Blotters. While in real life a bit of shine can give you a “dewy glow”, it can unfortunately look oily on camera.
Consider Glasses Glare. If you do not have a non-glare coating on your lenses, consider asking you optician to remove your lenses from the frame for the photo session. Most will do this at no charge, but give them plenty pf notice so there is no rush.
Personalize your Photos with Props. Have fun and show your personality in your senior portraits. This can be done through sports equipment, a music instrument, a hobby, or even a pet. (Be sure to check with photographer about pet beforehand).
Make Sure your Clothing is Pressed. All clothing should be ironed and arrive to the shoot on hangers. Wrinkles are very obvious in photographs.
Relax and Have Fun! These photos represent a wonderful time in your life and the experience of taking them should be just as fabulous as the finished product. Plus, when you are happy and enjoying yourself it will shine through in the photos.
